After last night’s loss to Coopersville, the Lakers did not have to wait long to get back in the win column. Spring Lake defeated West Michigan Christian 64-16. Defense was the key and set the tone for the whole game. Craig Whittaker and Jason Keena had 13 points each to lead a balanced Laker scoring attack which saw 11 different players score. Jack VanWingen had 5 steals on defense and Sam Negen had 3 assists. Spring Lake is now 8-3 on the season.

Game Recap

The Lady Lakers end a long week by defeating WMC 45-34. The Lakers went 3-0 this week, with two conference wins and topping it off on Saturday with a big win. The Warriors had a great strategy to try and stop the all stater, Reiko Johnson, by playing a box and one on her. The strategy work in part in that they held her to 6 points. What they could not stop was her strong play, with 10 assists and penetrating ball handlig . Linsey Paggett led all scores with 13 pts. The Lakers out rebounded WMC 32-29 with Jenna Core taking in 10 for the Lakers. The Lakers are now 6-4 and have another 3 game week.

The Lakers beat West Michigan Christain by the score of 40 to 29. All seven Lakers scored in moving their over-all record to 5 and 6. Leading the Lakers in scoring was Mckenzie Ely with 11 points. Phoebe Saunders was next in line with 9. Leah Vaughan chipped in 7.

Spring freshman boys suffered a tough loss 42-35 at home against West Michigan Christian in overtime. Spring Lake was led by Kyle Garrison with 12 points and 9 rebounds and Isiah Lindsey had 10 points. On the season Spring Lake is now 6-3 and 3-1 in conference.

Game Recap

Coopersville out scored the host Lakers 17-8 in the second quarter and never looked back. Coopersville was outstanding from the Free Throw line making 25 of 30 and outrebounded the the host school 31-23, marking the first time the Lakers have been out rebounded this year. Cameron Ball led the Laker offense with 19 points and Jack Van Wingen added 15.

Game Recap

The Lakers shook off a slow 1st quarter to come back for a 52-42 victory over the Coopersville Broncos. The Lakers were 17-41 from the floor and 14-22 from the free throw line. The Lady Lakers out rebounded the Broncos 27 to 21. Point guard and two time all state, Reiko Johnson took over the game in the second half scoring 16 or her 23 points. Reiko ended the game with 8 assists and 23 points. Many of the assists going to the two sophmores, Jenna Core and Medeline Zenas who ended with 11 and 6 pts. Both had 11 rebounds a piece. Defensively the Lakers were led by Emily Batts, Madelyn Nelson and Linsey Pagget who added 9 points.

The Spring Lake freshman defeated Coopersville 51-42. Lucas Lyyski lead the Lakers with 14 points for the second game in a row. Kyle Garrison 8 points, 5 steals and 5 rebounds. Connor Saxe also contributed with 8 points and 5 rebounds. Spring Lake is now 6-2 on the season and 3-1 in the conference.

The Lakers lost to Coopersville tonight by a score of 43 to 29. The Lakers battled tough throughout the ballgame but couldn’t overcome a 15 to 4, 1st quarter deficit. Phoebe Saunders tallied 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Abbi Perkins also had 13 points and led us with 8 rebounds. Mckenzie Ely contributed 6 rebounds and Leah Vaughan had 4 rebounds. The Lakers are 4 and 6 and play Saturday at Home against West Michigan Christain.
