Meet Recap

Saturday’s Mel Hall Invitational was one for the history and memory books with both the boys and girls teams of Spring Lake taking first place!

At their final home meet, seniors were recognized before the race for their hard work, contribution, and dedication to Spring Lake Cross Country.

The race for first and second place were tight throughout the race with Andrew Hylen leading and Fruitport’s Cameron Oleen right on Hylen’s shoulder. In the final 100 meters of the race, Andrew edged out Cameron only for Cameron to hit the throttle and pass Andrew for a first place finish. The Laker boys knew the race might be tight; Callen Carrier, Will Brown, and Jack Leech all came in in a row securing the Lakers at least a first or second place finish.

In the end, Black River and Spring Lake’s first five runners tied at 55 points leaving it up to the 6th place runner for scoring. Will Brown’s 24th place finish helped the Lakers finish in 1st place for the third year straight at Mel Hall.

Black River ran really well today, and their team looks really strong! They provided great competition for our guys, and it will be exciting to see how they finish at Division 3 Regionals next week.

Spring Lake Boys had 13 career PR’s and four runners medal in the top 20 finishers. This was one of the tightest races our fourth through seventh runners have ran all season. It is something we have continually been working toward all season long, and I think it’s more apparent than ever to see some of our gaps becoming smaller.
