The Spring Lake boys soccer team grabbed their third O-K Blue Conference victory of the season at home over Coopersville, winning a tight contest, 1-0.
Robert Hartliep converted the only score of the game, assisted from the sideline by Tommy Fine, 20 minutes into the first half.
From there, the Laker defense took over, locking down their zone, giving up just one quality scoring chance. Ben Bouwhuis took care of the scare, clearing a ball off the endline.
âTommy just streaked up the sideline and sent a nice cross in to Robby, it took a bounce on the way in and he chipped it right over the head of their keeper,â Spring Lake head coach Jeremy Thelen said. âFrom there it was a lot of 50/50 balls and midfield play and we just gritted out the win.â
The victory improves the Lakers to 4-4-1 overall and 3-1 in the O-K Blue. They return to the pitch at home on Thursday against West Catholic.
Junior varsity: The Spring Lake JV team defeated Coopersville, 8-0, Tuesday evening. Gavin DeVowe led the way with four goals, while Jonathan Bricker netted two. Breckin Deverney and Ben DesJardin finished off Laker scoring with one each.
