OK Blue Conference Champs! Spring Lake Girl’s Track team went undefeated for the dual meets and clinched the title by winning the conference championship meet in very exciting fashion. The meet leader changed between Grand Rapids Catholic Central and Spring Lake several times through out the meet and the deciding factor came down to the last 2 events, the mile relay and the pole vault.
The 4×400 team of Sophie Tardani, Taylor Rebone, Sophia Tilton, and Julia Bajt ran an amazing PR time of 4:08 to win the event, leaving the Lakers ahead by 1 point. Then Senior Bella LeRoux sealed the title by winning the pole vault with a jump of 11’6″.
As exciting as the finish was, the whole meet was just as thrilling from the very start.
The 4×800 relay team of Lizzy Penrice, Jackie Olszewski, Maggie Cooper, and Maddy Windberg took 3rd place by chopping off an astonishing 23 seconds from their previous best time. Inspired by the performance of the 4×800 relay, the rest of the Laker Ladies dug in and ran/jumped/threw with amazing performances across the boards. Every single girl on this team earned this championship. Outstanding performances included Kiara Stevenson and Bella LeRoux placing 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 100 M, Bajt and Stevenson placing 2nd and 6th in the 200 M, Bajt, Eva Tilton, and Sophia Tilton placed 2nd, 5th, and 6th in the 400M, Windberg, Peyton Howe, and Olszewski placed 2nd, 3rd, and 5th in the 800, Maggie Cooper placed 6th in the 3200M, Rebekah VandeWeg, Rebone placed 1st and 3rd in the 100 Hurdles, Tardani, Rebone and Komar placed 1st, 4th, and 5th in the 300 Hurdles, Jillian Huizenga placed 3rd in the Discus, Rebone and Komar placed 2nd and 6th in the Long Jump, and the 4×100 Relay team of VanDeWeg, Stevenson, Komar, and LeRoux placed 1st, and the 4×200 relay team of Bajt, LeRoux, Tardani, and Stevenson placed 1st.
